Root Canal Treatment (RCT)

Root canal treatment (RCT) is required when the pulp or nerve of a tooth gets affected by dental decay, sometimes even trauma. Once pulp is affected there is pressure on the nerve endings which generates pain. Pain is more at night or when lying down and also triggered by hot or cold food. Decay invades the pulp space which travel through canal and settle at the end of the root causing swelling of abscess on the site. Pulp damage is also seen in tooth fractures involving pulp, large fillings and trauma. Treatment involves cleaning the canal space by removing affected pulp, washing it thoroughly and filling it with inert material that seals the space. This is known as root canal treatment.
